CHICAGO, IL – A delinquent tax sale of $1.577,181.75 owned by the All Nations Assembly Church, Inc., a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is imminent after the expiration of the redemption period of December 31, 2018.
“Unfortunately, because the 2018 tax year is now closed and beyond the Assessor’s Office’s reach to correct, any correction to the outstanding delinquency would have to be challenged by filing a proper complaint in the Circuit Court,” said Christina T. Lynch Director of Legal at the Cook County Assessor’s Office.
Built on a 22-acres of land, the property located at 20300 Governors Highway in Olympia Fields, Illinois, the property was acquired from Catholic Church in 2013 for $2.4 million by Vintage Healthcare owned by Pastor Oliver Akano of All Nations Assembly Church.
“We are already in court,” said Pastor Akano but will not elaborate more. The Regional Director of RCCG in the Midwest and Pastor of Jesus House, Chicago claimed ignorance about the delinquent taxes.
The General Overseer of RCCG Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye was reportedly brought to pray for the church at the heat of the tax issue in 2018 or thereabouts when the church was dedicated and transferred to RCCG.
Lynch explains that the delinquent tax was issued for change of ownership in 2018 from Vintage Healthcare to All Nations Assembly church adding “I cannot tell why omitted assessments were issued for all three prior years.”
On October 4, 2018, according to court documents and Quit Claim Deed signed by Pastor Akano as President of Vintage Healthcare Services, Inc., ceded the property to the All Nations Assembly for $10.
The change of ownership according to Lynch triggered the issuance of omitted assessment in 2018 but had no clue why omitted assessments were issued in 2015 through 2017.” The backtax for 2015 was $250,278.62 while $251,082.62 and $251,503.50 were issued for the year 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The tax for the 2018 was put at $824,317.01 totaling $1,577,181.75 million. Omitted assessment interest accrues at 10 percent per year two years after the original tax bill should have been received, according to County records.
Existing facilities in the complex include a chapel, offices and meeting rooms, a kitchen, dormitories and apartments.
The apartment has 39 bedrooms. More than $367,000.00 had been expended to repair the alarm sprinkler system across the complex and additional $4,200 and $5,000.00 in the order for the repair of the sanitary sewer and trash recharged.
It will be recalled that PastorbAkano was one of the three founding pastors of RCCG in Chicago. Others are Pastors Bayo Adewole of RCCG in Chicago and Pastor Wale Akinosun of RCCG in Schuaumburg.
He was the first to set up another parish of RCCG in Rogers Park in the early 2000 and subsequently moved to South West La Grange from where the church bought Olympia Fields.
Otherwise known as the multipurpose Tolentine Monastery, the church was used to train Reverend Fathers in North America before the sale to Vintage Healthcare Services in 2013.
